The Call

Why give it away

“Because the light is not the trade,” she says. “If you get the evening, you will come back for stock. If you do not get the evening, I have sold you a book you will not open, and I would rather not.”

She turns the cup round in her hands.

“Also we are quite small and we make the things we would want on our own table. That is a business model the way falling is a career. But the rules can stay free to read, and the light can stay free, and then the only reason to buy anything from us is that you actually want it.”
